Title : Aspects of Steve Detweiler’s approach to second-order
Abstract : Steve Detweiler was a significant contributor to the foundation and development of the self-force problem in General Relativity. Along with Bernard Whiting, he introduced the singular and regular decomposition of the metric perturbation. Steve’s most recent work centered on the application of his ideas to the second-order problem. We discuss some aspects of Steve’s approach to the second-order problem, including his formalism and choice of gauge. Steve’s gauge resembles the well known "Regge-Wheeler" gauge but has some nice symmetry properties. Steven’s second-order formalism contains a straightforward analysis of the singular-regular split applied to expansions of the Einstein Tensor, although some interesting issues appear due to the explicit use of a point particle.
